US Presidential Election

Currently playing out in the public media is one of the only two dominant political parties own leadership, attacking directly one of their own pledged candidates. This duopoly has developed over the decades as a tremendously polarized (almost binary) political process. The party having the power, receives direct opposition whereby creating gridlock instead of negotiation and compromise.

One of my specific issues which I have researched is “Candidate Selection” and how the current dominant two party system degrades and limits the possible visible pool of vetted and qualified candidates. In many states the non-partisan option (those voters which choose NOT to be affiliated with a political party) is being chosen at a rapid pace.

The recent campaign, debate & primary process during the 2016 US Presidential Election has me questioning the value, process, intent and dramatic expense of valuable capital (2016 Campaigns Will Spend $4.4 Billion On TV Ads, But Why?) & human resources, and the actual purpose of all of this full blown media (broadcast, cable, online, print) political process (or circus) as well as the current processes of voter registration, candidate selection, parties, PACS, election, performance and everything in-between.

Seems to me there MUST be much better ways to provide a robust selection of candidates, thoroughly vet the candidates and then allow the entire registered citizens to cast their personal vote, and elect our Chief Executive by popular vote, not some sort of extremely outdated Ouija board electoral concept.

There are many people that are questioning this current process, one very prominent individual, Howard Schultz the Starbucks CEO says he’s gravely concerned about American politics. There should be a tremendous amount of due diligence when it comes to selecting the Leader of the Free World. Reading further into my diatribe regarding the current old, moldy & outdated process will outline my personal observations and frustration with this entire process and eventually highlight some of the reform process currently in effect.

Although posting this topic goes against my better instincts, the recent US Presidential Election campaign & debate process for the 2016 Primary & General Election process, has motivated me to share some of my personal opinions and thoughts regarding this very polarized and fractured process to elect the top executive branch official. The demonstrative dysfunction and media coverage of the 2016 US Presidential Election has been more circus like than civil.

The recent sadly unfortunate and untimely death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has demonstrated once and for all to confirm my suspicions which indicate the social dysfunction (misdirection, distrust, bullying, rudeness, blind ambition) which has developed within society has transcended into the political machine, with no regard to common sense or civility values.

The United States Constitution with its amendments have held up for over 200 years, and it might just be time to amend the voting process for the executive branch. It seems to me, that one specific area where the US has not kept up with using technology as a benefit is the US Voter Registration, with most of the Global Voter Registration systems established centuries ago.

Progress for the sake of progress is not necessarily good, however choosing the best way generally includes technology to assist with controls and volume. Daily I vote online for initiatives with my various business holdings, and using secured processes and PIN authentication, which seems to have worked for the recent few years rather well. Surely most voting eligible US citizens have access to some sort of Internet connection, smartphone App or regular landline telephone. I am extremely convinced that the aforementioned technology process would be much more efficient that the current manual registration and voting process that many states are still using. And with a little focus, I am confident the entire executive branch election process could be improved with the proper use of new requirements & applied technology solutions.
